What is the Advanced Open Water Diver Course?

Are you an Open Water Diver? Ready for the next step? Take your diving skills to the next level with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. This course is designed to further develop your diving education and experience. It is an exciting continuation of the Open Water Diver certification and a nice way to get a taste of some of the Specialty Courses.

The Advanced course will prepare you for a range of different dive experiences and helps you build confidence and expand your scuba diving skills through five different Adventure Dives. At the completion of this course you will be qualified to dive anywhere in the world to a depth of 100 ft (30 meters), giving you access to a wider variety of dive sites and marine life. You can start immediately after obtaining your PADI Open Water certification.

How do we do it?

Advanced Open Water Diver is a three-day course in which you gain experience while trying out different specialties, under the supervision of your dive instructor. You plan the learning path together with your instructor and you can choose which specialty dives you want to do, but there are two mandatory dives: Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation

During the Deep Adventure Dive you will learn how to plan a dive and how to deal with the challenges and physiological effects of deeper diving

The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you navigate better with swimming strokes, visual reference points and time

The other skills and knowledge you gain depend on your interests and which specialties you choose.

The specialties that benefit you the most are:

Peak Performance Bouyancy - perfect buoyancy control. This is actually indispensable for every diver: very important for your diving skills and air consumption, and you basically need this for all other dives, especially in e.g. cenotes or shipwrecks

Drift Dive

Shipwreck Dive

Other options are:

Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB)
Underwater Photography
Fish Identification
Coral Reef Conservation
Underwater Naturalist
Boat Diving
Night Dive

Adapt your Advanced Course

Your dive course, your way: the Advanced Open Water Diver course can be adapted to your own wishes (with an additional charge). You decide (if weather and ocean conditions allow for it) if you want to do the dives at other locations than Playa del Carmen. For example: you can choose to go diving for a day at Isla Mujeres or Cozumel, or maybe you want to do some dives in a cenote. We can of course assist you with tips and suggestions so that this course becomes exactly the way you want it.
